Monroe County commissioners approved a county millage rate of 7.9 mills for 2026, the county announced on August 27. The county described it as its lowest rate since 1999, down from 11.976 mills in 2025.

The adopted rate provides residents and businesses with an updated figure for the county government’s portion of property taxes. The school system and City of Forsyth set separate levies, so the county rate alone does not determine a property owner’s total bill.

The effect on an individual property also depends on its taxable value, applicable exemptions and other levies. The change should therefore be understood as a reduction in the county millage rate, rather than a uniform reduction in every tax bill.

Property owners reviewing their 2026 obligations can consult the county’s announcement and their individual assessment and tax documents for the details that apply to them.
